Obsidian Deviljho is a Subspecies of Deviljho that makes it's first appearance in Monster Hunter EX. It is black as obsidian due to the high amounts of melanin in it's skin, which is a result of a rare genetic mutation. it can only be encountered in X-Rank and U-Rank.

A rare genetic mutation of a Deviljho, this subspecies is as black as Obsidian, and is just as ravenous as the normal variant. It appears to have more mastery over the dragon element as well....
Behavior[]
It behaves similar to the normal species, but seems to have more mastery over the Dragon element than the normal variant, as it will use it's dragon breath even when not in rage mode. It can even use the dragon element in the form of a concentrated dragon beam, similar to Gravios' Heat Beam.

Twirl Dragon breath[]
Will spin around 360 degrees, breathing dragon element. Inflicts dragonblight.
Dragon Beam[]
Will Breathe in, its mouth surging with dragon element, and then breath out a beam of Dragon element, similar to Gravios' heat beam attack. Inflicts Dragon Blight.
Dragon Sweep Beam[]
Similar to Dragon Beam, but Obsidian Deviljho will do a Sweeping action with the beam instead of a straight trajectory. Inflicts Dragon Blight.
Notes/Trivia[]
- Similar to Deviljho, it will appear as a tresspasser monster in X-Rank and U-Rank Quests.
- It, unlike Deviljho, cannot be infected by Frenzy virus or go apex.
- However, in one quest, it is fought alongside a Frenzied Deviljho in U-Rank.
- It will prey on Herbivores to regain stamina
- Original name canidates for Obsidian Deviljho were Jet Deviljho, Melanistic Deviljho and Black Deviljho
- It has an appearance in Chaoarren's fan games, Monster hunter Tri Frenzy and Monster hunter Calamitous.
